This one falls short out of my consolation belt; regardless of the extremely lowly pace that "Dark" consists of, the uninspired songwriting sense that domains throughout the record or the minimal emotional dosage DARK failed to passàge, the album just feels disheartened.
The concept behind "Dark" is understandable: morbid, ivy-infested, barren land of hopelessness and sorrow a la CHARON. But DARK's efforts aren't merely enough to correspond the criteria. It seems not only the music itself is overwhelmingly predictable and repeated in abuse, the performance given by the band isn't quite overly impressive. For instance, Eric Molarin's vocal parts could've been done better.
As I'm not here to criticize, I'll name one song that, in one way or another, would be my light in the darkness, and that would be the middle fifth track, "Incomplete And Medicated", that, in my eyes, builds at least some interest "Dark" is missing. The controversial vocals are done well in this track, the keyboards following the chorus are quite adequate, and both of these things make it quite a hook to the listeners who had not given up hope on the album.
If there's anything else to salvage from the wrecks of "Dark", except the previously mentioned single gem "Incomplete And Medicated", is the musical direction the band as a whole take. It's almost preposterous to think a band doing such an unappealing record as DARK did, could even be thought to have a decent release in the future - but believe it or not, the Swedish trio may be staggering their way to greatness, if the raw material found on "Dark" will be refined harder.
To make some sense out of my ranting, if you're a gold digger in the genre of Gothic rock, you might find some interest in "Dark", and otherwise, you probably wouldn't. It would only make sense to me that this reverting scene would either be bestowed by an unexpected musical conduct, or be flushed away for an eternal sleep.
