Fatum
Dantalion
"Fatum" is the ninth studio album of Spanish Black Metal band, DANTALION; releasing on September 8th, 2023. Having been on the scene for two decades, this is the band's declaration of a comeback album. An album written with a Santa Muerte pop culture theme. DANTALION gets its name from the Demon Dantalion, the Keeper of the Forbidden Library 0f Bibliotheca, Duke of Hell. Dantalion the Demon teaches arts and sciences and declares secret counsel with anyone. As he knows the thoughts of anyone and everyone and can change those thoughts at will. He helps people relate to others on a more emotional level by teaching emotional intelligence and raising empathy for others.
"Great Funeral of Dawn" - Melodic guitar entry, a morose tune leads the way. A haunting melody matched to deep and almost low, whispery vocal style at times. At other times it is a wild wind of raging screams. Fast drumbeats offset the melodic guitar notes nicely. "Abyss Eating Serpent" - Melodic notes of despair, wild screams of rage. The dark, gothic nature of this song gives rise to images of dark castles haunted by long forgotten ghosts. "Hades Visions" - This song intros with the most delicious piano bit. Which follows into masterfully played guitar notes, bass, and drums. The lonely quality of this song prevails throughout, as it has a aching undertone beginning to end. "Mortuary Song" - As lonesome as the last song was, this song takes the cake in pulling on your heartstrings musically. With this song we are greeted with the most beautiful and soulful guitar into. Following all the way through the song, this is orchestrated pleasure for the ears.
DANTALION is an insanely dark and murky band, married to the aching quality of melodic guitar. "Fatum" is an album well worth listening to, one must take time to enjoy the artistic marriage of musical notes and vocals here. For a "come back" album, I think DANTALION delivered a banger.
