I've always been a bit weary sometimes about bands that are purely there for experimental purposes who aim to constantly experiment with different sounds on their albums. Experimenting is fine when you first start out as you need to decide on the type of music you will play but if all you do is experiment all the time without sticking to one clear style, your music isn't necessarily going to be great now is it? I don't mind if bands want to experiment with different types of rock as I have heard good examples of that in recent years but there are some I just want to face palm at due to how crap they sound.

One band that does spring to mind is INVERTIA and I reviewed their album last year and for an album that was apparently classified as Industrial Black Metal, it was by far the biggest pile of crap I have ever reviewed for this site can today's experimental project top that or can they create something that will top the pile of shit that was INVERTIA? Let us find out shall we?

The project in question is called DAN DEAGH WEALCAN which is made up of just two people just like the mentioned above project was and the members are from both Russia and Ukraine with one handling all the sound and one handling the vocals. Already alarm bells are ringing as there is no way one person can take on this much by themselves arranging and playing all the music. There are exceptions I have heard which are good of course so I can't say that this is a bad idea but I just hope I am wrong and that the produced music is good.

The album "Two Straight Horizontal Lines and the Organized Chaos in Between: Directors Cut" is the subject of this review and it is the debut from this project released this year. The second album is already out which is pretty fast if you ask me so today I will focus on just the first one. Formed in 2012, this two person project was originally a solo studio instrumental project by the guy that handles all the sound in the project and then in 2013, a voice was added making this a duo project. Two years later, the first
album is out and it has got one of the longest album titles I have seen in quite a while.

Clocking in at around 38 minutes across 12 songs, the debut from DAN DEAGH WEALCAN is an experimental album that utilizes a mixture of different genres and styles which are so endless; I wouldn't be able to list them all for you. I'm going to have to start off on a negative note I'm afraid as the moment I listened to the first song, major alarm bells rang in my head and my ears were screaming in pain as this is just as shit if not worse than the INVERTIA project I mentioned earlier.

I don't even know where to begin with this so I'll start I guess with the sound and my major issue I have with this is that the duo cannot clearly decide on what sound they want to use so this being an experimental project, there are a clash of different styles and varieties of genres on this so you can never really tell what it is trying to be and this makes it a confusing listening experience.

The second issue I have with this is the production and the composition which I guess could count as a third issue. The problem? It's all messy, chaotic, disorganized and all over the place so you can never really make out anything be it the music or the vocals. Because it's so chaotic and messy with the production and the arrangement which are both equally rubbish, you can never really enjoy it as much as you want as there are so many problems with it, it's hard to find any good points when you listen.

Bottom line, the debut from DAN DEAGH WEALCAN left me feeling confused and my ears wondering what the hell they were listening to as there are so many problems with this album, it's hard really to summarize what they are so I'll guess I'll finish by saying that for an experimental project, this is not what I was hoping it would be but if you like that type of thing then that's cool but for me, it just doesn't sit which is a good note on which to end this review.
