Dalkhu - Decend... Into Nothingness album cover

You remember when you were younger, your parents use to tell you stories of monsters. Maybe you watched movies that made you scared of water or looking under your bed after dark. Well, have I got a tale for you then. A tale of the unknown, a tale of depth, you can even consider it a tale of Metal if you so please.

Remember being young, going swimming in rivers or lakes or maybe even the ocean and not being able to see the bottom, do you remember that? Then you think back to tales you were told, monsters that would dwell in the depths, let's call this monster DALKHU. So, what's the first step to dealing with the depths that just looks like a "Pitch Black Cave"? Well you gotta put your foot in, test the waters. That's what the first song on DALKHU's "Descend... Into Nothingness" seemed like for me, a test of the waters. Eventually after a while you start to feel the harmonies between yourself and the water, just like you do with the music. Soon enough after testing the waters you decide it's safe to get in, that's where the next song takes over.

"The Fireborn" is a perfect representation of what a monster DALKHU is. This is the creature in the depths grabbing your foot and dragging you to the bottom, this is the destruction of Death Metal. The melodies throughout the song while you feel your breath slip away and you begin to give in to the endless assault, the song shows what power can be had with harmonising guitars, as well as a proper lead and rhythm guitar work. The moments of realisation that you're caught in this monsters tune, the beauty in some of the harmonies are the moments you accept death, while the riffs of destruction laid over a taunting rhythm are your struggle. Will you live or die?

"In The Woods" is the tune that will toy with you, right before giving in, you're given a release and you begin to float up. The song opens with an amazingly beautiful (whoa, Death Metal and beautiful together) clean section and half the song is clean and lovely. This half of the song is your escape, your freedom from this creature. The other song half on the other hand is destruction. Your death will soon follow, heavy on harmonising riffs, brutal vocals and unrelenting drums. This is a band that can make you write a story without having to put it in your head.

This may only be a few examples of this album's destruction, and hopefully the story telling helped get across what this DALKHU and their new album "Decend... Into Nothingness" really is about. This album is a true monster and is a must have for any fans of Melodic Death Metal, if you're even only a plain Death Metal fan, or just extreme Metal you should be giving this a chance, trust us.
