Necrotic Flesh Bacteria

Cryptic Brood

The new release of the German Doom Death Metal trio is truly sick! What are you waiting for?
December 27, 2024

It’s not a sin to take an Old School musical model and to take it to another level, to make musical experiences in it. During the early days of the Second Wave of Death Metal (1989-1991), it was usual to make experiences with the genre, and many bands crossed influences of Death Metal with Doom Death Metal without problems (and no one complained back on those days). And the German trio CRYPTIC BROOD tries some different things on “Necrotic Flesh Bacteria”.

Marco Brinkmann was hired by the trio to make the album’s mixing and mastering, and the choice was for the putrid sonorities of the past, when the models for Death Metal recordings didn’t exist. Nasty instrumental tunes, raw outfit, but with things defined to allow the fans to understand what’s being played. And the sickening appeal of “Necrotic Flesh Bacteria” is completed by the insane graphics created by Slimeweaver (artwork) and FINAdesigns (layout).

The words in the beginning of this review depicts that the trio works on an Old School Death Metal way, with the mixing of classic Death Metal of the early years 90s with some Doom Death Metal influences on the slow tempos. But there are parts with refined technical approach, and more experimental ways into their music. But pay attention: it doesn’t mean that they work on an ‘out-of-date’ way, or even that they don’t show personality. They have, and you can check as being dragged into their chaotic musical work.

“Acid Fumes” (very good rhythmic shifts between fast parts and slow moments, with very good snarls and screams of the vocals), “Digging Through Skin”, “Oozing Pox” (sickening parts from bass guitar and drums can be heard on this one), “Viscid Fluid”, “Hallucinogen Poison”, “The Pile of Flesh is Served” (pay attention to the technical appeal in some moments and the contrasts between screams and growls), “Realm of Rot”, “Necrotic Flesh Bacteria” and “Reeking Pitted Innards” (both depicting very good guitar riffs) don’t need to be dissected, because they speak for themselves, and it’s hard to resist their appeal.

“Necrotic Flesh Bacteria” shows that CRYPTIC BROOD is here to stay. And it’s better for you accept such a thing.
