Cry Of Dawn - Cry Of Dawn album cover

Award-winning singer Göran Edman is one of the premier vocal talents from Scandinavia, with a carrier spanning over 30 years. He had provided vocals for the likes of JOHN NORUM, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, BRAZEN ABBOT, GLORY, and others. Goran is a highly sought-after studio vocalist with over 50 albums, extensive world touring, as well as writing and production credits. CRY OF DAWN is Goran Edman's latest work: an AOR / Melodic Rock album which highlights his vocal abilities on some songs written for him by Michael Palace, Steve Newman, Alessandro Del Vecchio Sören Kronkvist, Daniel Palmqvist and Robert Säll. The album contains eleven tracks.

The melodic sensibilities of "Chance" lead off the album. Edman's smooth and emotionally laded voice provides the direction for a great mix of guitars and keys. The keyboard notes in "Listen To My Heart" coat you like soft rain drops, refreshing you with that nostalgic smell of springtime on a warm day. A well-timed guitar solo enhances the sound here, which could be something you might heard on an album by JOURNEY. "When Right Is Wrong" is a slower paced track with guitar riff peaks that ooze with feeling. The vocal harmonies are rich like butter, with a sensational chorus to cap it off. The sound is expansive, like all good AOR should be. "Light A Light" is full on sublime. Super-catchy and uplifting, this is the kind of song that should all over the radio and music media in general. It is full of character and substance.

"Building Towers" is sort of an "us against the world" and "we are all we need" love tale. The proper amount of sweetness is applied without it sounding sappy. In fact, that is one of the best features of the album. It's comely and makes you feel alive, without sounding formulated. "Hands Around My Heart" is really an unabashed ballad that brings on a full range of emotion. If you are not moved by this track I suggest you check your pulse, as you may actually be deceased. Right after comes more of fast moving track entitled "Life After Love" that, while harkening to sad times, urges you to get back in the game and understand that the world is full of opportunity and happiness for the taking.

"Tell Me" closes the album with spirit and emotion. The unicorn on the album cover, bursting from the sky and riding the waves of the ocean is the perfect imagery for the album. It's a mystical and captivating listening experience, for those who appreciate soulful vocals and harmonies, hard enough to please Rock fans and endearing enough for fans who want music that they feel a passion for and a connection with. Edman employed a perfect ensemble of writers and musicians for this debut. Put the top down on a sunny day, and ride off into the country with this, and your woes will be behind you.
