Erathems
Cronian
In Metal long history, we see sometimes projects done by some renamed musicians, from great bands, but these works have strange characteristic: or they are a total loss of time, or they great works. There's no midterm in this kind of musical work. But CRONIAN, since its first album, was always a fine parallel band from BORKNAGAR and VINTERSORG musicians Øystein G. Brun and Andreas Hedlund (come on, everybody knows that Andreas is Vintersorg), so "Erathems" is another masterpiece from these two creative guys.
We can say that they do something very near their principal bands, but CRONIAN is more climatic and progressive, but not as technical as them as well, but they really do a fine work in this disc, a step ahead from 2008 "Enterprise", with the work sounding more concise, more like a band. Vocals are sometimes harsh and sometimes clean and progressive, the bass and drums are in good shape, keyboards as well, but the guitar riffs and arrangements are better than before. So their progressive music evolved in something too fine that mere words can't explain.
Sound production is fine and very clear, allowing us all to enter their musical core with no trouble, and we can hear the little details with no difficulties, but as we couldn't find the producer, we assume that both Brun and Vintersorg took this duty by themselves. The artwork is another great work from Brazilian designer Marcelo Vasco, that embodied CRONIAN's music perfectly.
The greater moments: the harsh and progressive "Cold Wave Eruption" (fine guitar riffs and vocals during all song), the Prog-aggressive "Drifting Station", the hooky and beautiful "Blackwater Horizon" (what great vocal works!), "Core Resiliency" (these hypnotic and atmospheric keyboards make the difference here!), and the bonus track "Full Moon Inferno".
Perfect, just this!
