Cradle Of Filth - Nymphetamine album cover

It is obvious that during the last years, Cradle Of Filth (concrete from the Midian album in 2000) have changed their sound from Black Metal to more Classic Heavy paths. But that doesn't mean that they have lost their authenticity, which remains in their melodic and at the same time aggressive marks. In my opinion I want to characterize this album as a classic Heavy Metal piece with the usual dark howling of Dani.
Cradle Of Filth was created in Suffolk during 1991 by former PDA and Feast On Excrement vocalist Dani Filth (real name: Dani Lloyd Davey), guitarist Paul Ryan , bassist Jon Richard and drummer Darren. This inaugural line up cut the opening demo Invoking The Unclean in 1992, shortly after which second guitarist Robin Graves (real name: Robin Mark Eaglestone previously with Malicious Intent and Nightbreed ) was added. Another demo in 1992, the seven tracked Orgiastic Pleasures ensued after which Jon Richard departed to create Hecate Enthroned. Their third demo Total Fucking Darkness was issued in December of 1993. The debut album The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh (1994), found the band with another new face,  Nicholas took over the drum stool. The ructions didn't stop though as Paul Ryan, Benjamin Ryan and Paul Allender all bailed out. This triumvirate of refugees formed The Blood Divine with ex-Anathema vocalist Darren White in late 1995. Vowing to carry on Dani quickly filled the ranks with guitarists Stuart Anstis and  Jared Demeter (rumors abounded that Jared Demeter was actually Stuart Anstis) together with Darren Gregori on keyboards. Cradle Of Filth's collaboration with Sony ended in December as the band signed to the major independent label, Roadrunner Records, projecting a new studio album dubbed Nymphetamine to be produced by Anthrax guitarist Rob Caggiano. Featured guest artist on the title track Nymphetamine (Overdose) would be former Theater Of Tragedy and Leave's Eye singer Liv Kristine.
Cradle Of Filth are so famous not only because of their historical Black Metal albums, but also because of their challenging image and provoking video clips they've released, which were banned from most TV Networks. I won't mention anything about the t-shirts and lyrics of Cradle Of Filth, because it is a quite usual phenomenon for most Black Metal bands.
Nymphetamine is the tenth album, during the works of Cradle Of Filth. As I previously said, the group changed its sound a bit a few years ago. Of course they still have the same melodic atmosphere with many keyboards and symphonic notes. The vocals are the usual sick howling and growling of Dani. The female vocals are melodic and match with the general style of the group. And the last impression is that when you listen to the guitars, comes in your mind as if you are listening to Iron Maiden 's riffs back in '80's.
The album starts off with a sick- rapid- blasting song, Gilded Cunt (After the intro Satyriasis) and the album goes on with the eleventh song Filthy Little Secret which has an amazing solo and is one of my favorites on this album. Another incredible song is the twelfth one, Swansong For A Raven, which has a more theatrical tone. And the album ends with a very beautiful and romantic song, Nymphetamine Fix with Liv Kristine (ex-Theater Of Tragedy and Leave's Eyes singer) on vocals. I must say that I'm not a fan of Liv and all her works, but this song makes me wanna listen to her singing over and over again.
Nymphetamine is not something special, coming from a band like Cradle Of Filth, but it's absolutely not a bad album.
