Cosmics - The Cosmic Year album cover

In order to understand the following review I must explain to you what a Cosmic year is. The world we're living (our universe and our own planet Earth) is approximately 15.000.000.000 years old and the American astronomer and author Carl Sagan (1934 - 1996) had the idea to much this time to a single solar year of our time (approximately 365 days, 8760 hours, 31.536.000 seconds). This year is called Cosmic year.

If Big Bang is the beginning of all creations then it happened in January 1st, Earth was created September 14th and first humans appeared on Earth December 31st. You must understand that our life, the whole human history its just a glimpse in the universe history.

Our friend and maybe the busiest Italian musician, senor Daniele Liverani (TWINSPIRITS, GENIOUS, KHYMERA) is back, this time with his new project COSMICS and their first release The Cosmic Year. This album is a concept/ Progressive/ Instrumental trip through time. Liverani's attempt to dress up with notes the gigantic creation of the universe. Liverani once more has on his side his faithful TWINSPIRITS and KHYMERA companions, Virgil Donati (Steve Vai, PLANET X, RING OF FIRE) on drums and the 20-year old Tommy Ermolli on guitars along with the valuable help of Rufus Philpot (PLANET X, David Gilmore, Al Di Meola) on bass.

Each track contains various movements given a sonic reference to specific moments in the evolution of the universe, which maintains both a progressive outlook yet work cohesively as a sonic unit and as single entities. Daniele Liverani showcases immense skill in this his complex, visionary and progressive work.

The Cosmic Year concept entity will find many open ears and minds among Progressive Metal fans. The rest of you will enjoy the well designed booklet and the journey through evolution. Earth's future is up for grapes.

The first cosmic year has just ended. And despite the insignificance of the instant we have so far occupied in cosmic time, it is clear that what happens on and near Earth at the beginning of the second cosmic year will depend very much on the scientific wisdom and the distinctly human sensitivity of mankind...
