"Raben Im Herz" (which translates as "Ravens In My Heart") is the new album of the Symphonic/ Gothic Metal band CORONATUS, from Stuttgart, Germany. I've never heard about this band until these last couple of days and it was a big and pleasant surprise.
The first track, "Lady of the Wall", sometimes, sounds a lot like the old NIGHTWISH and WITHIN TEMPTATION. It's not bad, and the band has personality, good vocals, harmony and heavy guitar sound. "König Der Nebel", seems to be written by ARKONA (the Russian Folk Metal band), mixing heavy guitar riffs and accordion. Well, at least, you can have lots of fun drinking some beer, even if you don't like Folk Metal, listening to this one.
The Title-track "Raben Im Herz" is very melancholic and brings back the Symphonic sound. One of the best songs from this album again showcases the band well with amazing vocal work. "Carpe Noctem" starts with an acoustic guitar and them, some folk metal elements again, with some Gothic Metal influences."Anderswelt" begins with aggressive vocals and a beautiful melody. If RAMMSTEIN had a female voice in their songs, would sound like that.
Again, the symphonic sounds and an incredible and catchy choruses come together to make a great piece. If you like Modern Metal, you should check this one. Great track! Well, the last track, this one sees the epic "Frozen Swan" ends with a delightful symphonic sound. I think the band should play this song every night at the end of the show. Great harmonies, lyrics, and atmosphere show through in this music.
The whole album itself is good, but a little confusing at times by the lots of different influences there. But, if you like NIGHTWISH, EPICA, or ARKONA and German lyrics (in some songs), you must enjoy "Raben Im Herz". It's very unusual and daring. Give it a chance, they deserve it. German bands usually don't disappoint.
