Core Of Io - Part IV: Callisto album cover

Today I will be reviewing something quite interesting, quite unusual, odd and unfamiliar - CORE OF IO. Hailing us from United Kingdom these four-men are bringing us a fusion, I dare to say, a mixture of blends and genres, a Heavy Progressive Rock band, as they have explained their work into a genre. "CORE OF IO mix harmonious proggy rock with darker even more technical metal bordering on Djent. Clearly influenced by the likes of Sikth, The Deftones, Tool and Meshuggah. Tasty guitars, relentless drums and dynamic vocals".

So, this melding of genres starts out with an instrumentally song simply tagged with "Introduction"; not so much to say about it, lots of Progressive sounds and an easy to swallow Djent-ish tune. Second one in the row is named "The Wait And The Stag" - the oddly verse and one of the strangest things I've heard in my life. Not knowing why I am this surprised and in some moments confused I found this one as worthy, and well managed lay. The strange vocals, almost as I am listening to a Jamaican Jazz-fusion Reggea; something like if SKINDREAD were Progressive Jazz, if you happen to be a fan or ever have listened to them, you'll understand me. Also, I find them linked to Ska, and all the world behind those acts; who knows maybe they are a little bit into it.
The song I found as the top of this EP is the fifth one - "Please Remind Me Please". A heavy feeling of anger, youthful and rebelness are echoing all around this labor. In some moments I found a linking to SYSTEM OF A DAWN way of delivering the point of the song. I love the way I entered into 5th song; a screaming vocals got me so hyper and then the chillness cooled me off, a roller-coster, a bit of everything, like I listened to some weird TOOL experiment combined with Rhythm and Blues atmosphere packed into a Prog MetalRock pill .

Through-out whole manifest you will feel this strange urge to think about world peace and to actually try something to make a bright future for everyone, an eye opening stuff. As a person who don't listen to this kind of music I find this very interesting and a thing Prog-heads will love to listen to and relax with after a hard day out.
