Contradiction - The Origin of Violence album cover

Only after listening to this album 3 times, I found that these guys are from Germany and I was like "No wonder, they're so damn good!" But seriously CONTRADICTION's 7th full length album "The Origin of Violence" brings a new style of Thrash to the table, something worth your time.

The album mostly is on a high tempo mode and works just fine for the band's style. The album starts off with a blitzkrieg song in "Meltdown." The title track "The Origin of Violence" brings in some tasty innovative riffs and ear pounding drum beats. The screaming and growling vocals of Oliver "Koffer" Lux is another highlight of this record. It's very tempting to describe each and every song in here, because each song brings something new to the table, like "The Age Of Aquarius" which has thumping headbanging riffage reminiscent of SODOM. It's not all uni-directional brutal badness as the song tries to shift the tempo by bringing in a few guitar solos, though some of these solos are lost in rest of the music, which may be due to poor production.

Ilija "Ili" Jelusic makes his presence felt through a bass solo in "Angel Of Blacknevaniass," though nothing impressive, it works just fine here considering the context and whole song structure. The song is continuous into the latter part with some low sounding haunting backing vocals, bringing more variety to the album. The next few songs continue the good work, but add more anthemic backing vocals and tasty solo riffs. I hate to say this but, "His Dark Materials" is a disappointment in the latter part of the album as the band tries to do lots of experimentation and in the process loses its path. Again with "Behind The Eyepiece," the clean backing vocals are a disappointment and slightly take away the excitement created so far in the album. The same backing vocals along with the clean vocals of Oliver "Koffer" Lux work wonders in "In Zaire." The album finishes of with a strong track in "Rockin Transilvania" as the listener is treated to the classic screaming vocals again backed with anthemic vocals too. A perfect way to end the album, though it doesn't have any new interesting riffs.

The production here is polished and works great for this band. After listening to this album multiple times, I have mixed feelings as the latter half of the album is a slight disappointment and tests your patience as the album elongates to 54:48 min. It's an album full of headbanging and fist thumping tasty riffs, another album I'm tempted to say - Blindly pick this, if there's a thrasher in you (even though it's not a perfect album)! This band surely deserves more attention as they do what only few bands are capable of in their 25th year!
