Confession - The Long Way Home album cover

Hmm... I wonder where I can put another kicking breakdown? Maybe here or perhaps here? Of course there is nothing better than adding up low tuned bass thrusts along with the breakdowns. I am truly sorry for sounding sarcastic but that is pretty substantial fraction of the feeling I got from the second album, "The Long Way Home", via Lifeforce Records, by the Aussie Metalcore group CONFESSION.

I know that it is hard to be inventive in this kind of music, especially when Hardcore is involved that simplicity is its main ordain. Yet, I think that when a band is about to close down the material for an album, of course with expectations of outstanding results, the members should try to check out, at least a little bit, of what their surroundings is offering, or offered, before closing things down and shipping it out for print. What ended up on this release, though not entirely in full, like on many other releases of the same kind, is mimic, nearly non melodic, monotonic and utterly repetitive music piece that won't survive the test of time and will begin to tire pretty fast.

Through the songs of "The Long Way Home" I sensed enthusiasm and youthful spirit that these five piece crew shares. That same spark enabled them to create a few solid outputs like "Gimme A.D.D", "Piece By Piece" and "Asthma Attack". I also have to praise the band's vocalist that made some nice shifts between furious growls to softy velvet sounding voice that sounded kind of Punk yet more melodic. Furthermore, the production provided with an intense sound that is exactly what these kind of bands need, yet it is also one of the attributes that makes them less unique as almost every band of the same embraces the same direction.

CONFESSION holds some deep feelings when it comes to their themes. Their lyrics, even with the occasional cursing, sent some clear messages. I just wish that their music will rise to this kind of level. Well, I can only hope that the next album will tell a different story because it's no use, for the long run, to always go with the flow.
