Concilivm - The Veiled Enigma album cover

Abstraction plays a huge role within any artistic endeavor, it can be the cornerstone of a piece completely separating the article of interest from anything of modern convention, or perhaps-and more often-just an askance prescription of the artist altering their perception of the normal whereat they produce works completely unique to themselves and independent of trite mannerisms. That is exactly what we're given within this EP entitled "the Veiled Enigma" as not only are the songs something of a discrete notion but also the artists themselves going by the names A and Ω wherein no other musician is made mention of within their constructions. Coming from Chile "Concilivm" entered the scene in 2017 and has been going strong ever since, sailing the tumultuous waters of Death Metal.

The album opens up with "I: the Veiled Enigma" a short and somber introduction to the band and their particular atmosphere before segueing into the first full song of the EP "Dark Zenith" a miniature opus heralding the different affinities the band is inclined towards. The song opens simple enough with a rhythm left out to ring coupled by the voicings of another guitar playing a tremolo lead whereupon the drums eventually join in to match whilst the rhythm still rings out.  The song slows for a bit introducing a melodic lead before the drums come back up to speed and the song returns to its previous inclination albeit with a more harmonious tone.

The guitars are quick and dirty having about them a tone with a propensity more towards Black Metal but which works perfectly in this case as the guitars work as auxiliaries to the vocals matching the grittiness and attitude perfectly. The drums are well balanced neither being too bright nor too dark and match the slow drawing chords beat for beat only emphasizing the heaviness of the soundscape. The last track on the album-which is exclusive to the CD release-is named "Epistemology of Darkness" and the vocals do well to illustrate the title's eldritch description; howling out in deepened screams, growls, and roars the song best exemplifies the band's approach to atmosphere with the guitars relentlessly playing and chords sounding out in heavy unison and the drums matching the intensity the song stands out for its intensity.

"Concilivm" has a unique sound and a predisposition for the weird and atmospheric any fan of early Death Metal would find this EP appealing coupled with the promise of more to come.
