Ascending Into Shimmering Darkness

What do you get when you mix battle inspired music that takes a twist for the melodic dark metal? Doom gloom at it's best with raging tuned low bass/vocals and a heavy induced guitar drum section that will knock your emo socks off. England's finest trio COLTSBLOOD axing their sound to distance shores with their latest Ascending Into Shimmering Darkness via none other by Candlelight Records. Yes, will have to say it again, a label that delivers what it promises not only that but this three piece here is a testimony of true talent indeed. Unleashing their eerily influenced music since 2010, they have put out two splits and two full lengths along with a live album showing that they are a force to be reckoned with musically. One might say COLTSBLOOD have that doom metal ambition to really rock their tastes into the core of any fan of any musical taste or style.
Taking you into their pain cave the band kicks the feelers with title track song "Ascending Into Shimmering Darkness", which is a fitting introduction that begins with a slow varied tempo with slow powerful guitars, heavy low bass tones and melodic heavy drumming. One might sense a musical story being told through their instruments but one can hear plain as day anguish that is almost painful to describe this forlorn aggression. Around 3:25 in song it slowly picks up with a medium guitar trance rhythm that meet the harsh brutality of vocals then the drums make their way into a slow moving pace. 5:25 the song slams you in the face with almost death black metal kicking you with the rhythm section and screeching vocals..rest of the song tapers out evenly.
Rest of the tracks are long created despite only being five songs and only less than fifty-three minutes of sheer melodic hatred the band keeps the flow constantly interesting. Can hear similarities to TYPE O NEGATIVE (the tuned down low bass and low deep growls) and dashes CORRUPTED along with CONAN. One thing that I have to give these gents credit for are the songs which are not dragged on but give a album of filler pieces. Take last track "The Final Winter " is a masterpiece unto itself for it speaks of its own musical life when in reflection to life. Perfection guaranteed! Highly recommend this album for its own interesting take on gloom metal to which COLTSBLOOD regenerates with a twist of their own. Well recorded and orchestrated structures the entire album is well done.
