With the title of Extreme Progressive Metal COGNITION bring their self titled release packed with 40 minutes of Heavy Metal. The only gripe I have is that the vocals are a sort of style that don't pull my attention all that much. Released through JK Records, let me tell you what this band is bringing to the table for you to decide.
The album opens with an instrumental called "The March" that gives you an idea of what this album will bring. Nothing instrumentally is to awe inspiring compared to the introduction. The vocals are a much less experienced WHITE EMPRESS style of Extreme Metal vocals, in a couple of albums I'm sure the vocals will be much more distinctive and will kill some of the competition. A couple songs down "Recoil" takes a much more melodic approach, showing that this band isn't a one trick pony. Still like I said, not to awe inspiring but it was nice to see that the album isn't going to be the same the whole way through. The last thing I want to mention is in "Words Of Insanity" Jorel Hart hits a pretty solid style of Death Metal vocals a little bit, just a cool little bonus.
Although it's not to special, if you're looking for something new there's no harm in giving this a try. However, it's not a must listen to more like a "if you need something to do may as well check it out, right?" this is just my suggestion.
