The first album "Pushing Rope" of American Doom Metal band CLEANTEETH is ready to be out. Formed with known musicians in the Metal scene of New York, and playing in bands as GODMAKER and WHITE WIDOWS, etc... This project is based on several influences, indeed the beginning was in 2008 with a highly experimental style qualified as Noise Rock. All this has given rise to an unconventional type of Doom Metal.
This album contains many elements and influences merged with a smart way. Guitars tuned several steps below the standard; the riffs are heavy and brutal which adds unhealthy and melancholic appearance. Try to listen to "Shitbreather" or "Stay On Target". On several occasions, I was surprised in the middle of the album by interludes such as "French Kissing Alexander Hamilton" and "Mermaids", two tracks that reflect reflection and brainstorming to pass a message with the use of strange effects that are difficult to understand. The album is complex, indeed it is impossible to decrypt the whole style all in a single listen, and it took me two or three listening sessions to get by with some deductions. The American quintet has not fallen into the copying; they tried to produce their own sound, their own music.
This first album of CLEANTEETH is not within the reach of the entire world of music. With influences from the psychedelic sound to Stoner Metal, I can imagine at what level this band can evolve. I thought that this was the 4th or the 5th album at first, but wait it's the strangely the first one. For fans of good discoveries and heavy sounds, I strongly recommend this album.
