Opus Limbonica
Clamoris
CLAMORIS is a Melodic/Symphonic Death Metal band formed in Finland in 2017. This is their debut release, and contains eight songs. "Regurgitated" is the first. The sound is pretty packed full with vocals, drums and guitars, adding keyboards and symphonic elements to boot. They sound classically tinged to me. It finally slows around the half-way mark, but the intricate guitar work continues. Try to count the notes in the lead guitar and key changes that follows. "The Bite of the Cosmic Snake" is a little shorter and more riff-driven. Guitar harmonies abound at the chorus, but the singular vocal delivery might weigh down their progress...we will have to listen more on this.
"Schemer's Paradox" has a similar sound that the band seems to lean on just a bit too much. The complex and sophisticated sounds that they build are noteworthy, but the album is staring to become repetitive in this sense. But again, the solos are wonderfully done. "A Window to My Dreams" is another fast-moving song with ample keyboard and guitar work. The band is not without talent, that is for sure, but just a little more focus on some variation in the songwriting would go a long way. "Rain, Rain Down on Them" is a bit shorter, but with no fewer complexities in their sound. This song has a familiar gallop to it and the guitars and keyboards are equally present and in the right places.
"Forma Inversa" has a similar romp as some of the other tracks. The lead guitars answer the vocals in an almost question-and-answer clash, and much of the melody comes in the chorus. "Opus Limbonica" is the seminal track that is thick with many of the elements that make the album as good as it is. Symphonic elements abound, as do keyboards. The slow middle section loses a bit of its luster with the key change, but it does present some variation. "Walking in the Graveyard" closes the album. It's two minutes of that diversity I was talking about earlier, but it's a little too late at the closing song. Keys/piano takes the lead, in a both a jovial and eerie sound. Overall, this was a good album. The band displays some strong musicianship on the album, though many of the songs run together. For a first effort, it is solid, and I will keep my eye on how the band can grow in the future.
