Here are CINEMUERTE, a Portuguese four-piece electronic Rock band. The album "DHIST" is their newest release after the successful 2008 album "Aurora Core". The band has been in the Portuguese scene since 2002 - opening for acts such as HIM, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, PAATOS and many music festivals early in their inception.
Electronic melody gets quickly sparked into drums and overdriven guitar in the track "Dog". Vocalist Sophia Vieira starts singing along with the rhythm of the song. The song slowly turns heavier and finally breaks fantastically into the breakdown.
"Heaven's Not Too Far" reminds me some of another album I reviewed; Skyharbor's "Guiding Lights". The song starts in a dream pop-y vibe that almost instantaneously turns to hard rock with gushing vocals and a punk-y mood. This song and dance repeats a few more times during the song without losing any traction
My favorite track is "I'm Too Much Here Without You", creepy electronic sounds are grown bigger with rising drums and the guitars and vocals join in soon enough. The mood intensifies quickly into a fun chorus with a tasty riff and emotional singing. Another similar verse and chorus enters before the guitar starts taking the lead with a fat and heavy riff with arpeggio backup from another layer of guitars
This album features something that I like in some electronic acts that I unfortunately don't see more; the electronic synthesizer sounds doesn't take the front in a repetitive way, but holds the vocals, guitar and drums very well and supporting them instead of pesteringly taking the front. This album is short and very energetic - It reminds me much of Israeli band EATLIZ's heavier materials. If you are looking for a fun, electronically flavored poppy with plenty heavy metal twists and turns to spice it up. "DHIST" is definitely an album you should check out, I definitely will come back to it.
