Children Of Doom - Doom

CHILDREN OF DOOM brings you the Stoner Doom Metal under the BLACK SABBATH influence with an emphasis of 70's Hard Rock. I would like to make it clear, it's not easy to play this kind of style in the vein of the early development of 70s Hard Rock because you should stick to the roots and to your influences but yet you have to bring something of your own that will convince the audience.

At that point CHILDREN OF DOOM sticked to their roots but I didn't find them professional enough to convince me and most of that is because of their lead singer which I found him faking the vocals throughout the songs while not reaching the right notes. The singing pattern was without any emotion, and unclear. Even though that Ozzy, for example,is not the best singer, he has charm in his voice. Same goes with unique voice of Lemmy.

This album sounded to me nothing more but amateurish. Do not get me wrong, the music has potential. "Bottle Ben In The Streets" is one of the greatest songs here, starting with heavy drum beats that enter a dark atmosphere which developed to a catchy powerful riffs that reminded the glory days of BLACK SABBATH in the 70s, the twist in the middle of the song, when getting faster and heavier, also contributed and made it more interesting.

Unfortunately, the production's quality on this song, and through all over the album, was rather poor, which made hard life for the singer as he got too much reverb on his singing. It was hard to distinguish the lyrics. The guitars are way too loud, almost louder than the singer. Yes they have the right sound for the style and the doomed riffs pulled it off but sound pretty dim.

The self title song, "Doom, Be Doomed" is an aggressive Rock N' Roll song with evilly vocal rhythm but its arrangement is not clear. It started with heavy fast riff and then turned slowly into a different riff and again to a faster one. It was kind of a mess for me. I didn't know where the peak moment was.
I didn't understand the last track. It was a twelve minutes instrumental track where it began to sound melodic only on the fourth minute. Then it developed nicely and got heavier. Yet, when it came close to the end on the eighth minute all I could hear was an oriental passage with a saxophone that did not fit to the song and continued until its end.

I think that it was a nice try to maintain this kind of Metal but this time it didn't work as well for CHILDREN OF DOOM.
