Chapitre II

Well, this is a fun band. I listen to very little speed metal, but considering this EP's flaws, it sure is a lot of fun to listen to and it's great reminder of what makes old school metal fun in the first place. I feel like i'm in a good place to review their latest ep "Chapitre II." I am not jaded by being overexposed to this style so what I get out of this is very different from my usual stuff so it doesn't wear me down. You have very typical riffs in the Iron Maiden style. The production sound overall is really raw, which usually I detest, but it really works in this bands favor better than anything in recent memory.
What I cannot get out of my head is how much Emma on vocals sounds like Geddy Lee. I consider this awesome for the band's sake honestly. She really is the highlight of this band for me, though the playing by the rest of this band is fantastic. It evokes old album covers with dragons and monsters and Frank Frazetta landscapes. The sound and style of this band perfectly paints the picture of fantasy and medieval battles. Now as much praise as I am lumping on this band, I wouldn't consider this my favorite EP or LP by a long shot this year, but what CHEVALIER do, they do it well. The fact I am enjoying this as much as I am is a testament to that. I can usually only make it through a song and get bored in this genre.
Overall: I will definitely check out this band moving forward in the future. I hate that I don't live in Their country to see this band perform live. Definitely check this band out, even if you aren't a big fan of the genre. You might be surprised.
