Pathogenesis
Chapter V: F10

Black Metal is a genre I kind of have a love/hate relationship with. It's rarely done right, but when it is, it's quite possibly among the best metal music on this plane of existence. I don't really know the reason why so many bands fall into tropes and clichés. I could never understand making an album and not having the critical thinking to realize that what you wrote and recorded sounds basically like 90% of all Black Metal records ever.
Now, for the review.
If you look at the band name, or the song title of this record, you may get a really weird vibe and think they're a really strange sounding band (like The Number Twelve Looks Like You, for example). But in reality, the duo's music on this LP is barely original at all. It's 42 minutes are mostly tremolo picking and blast beats, although some not-bad-at-all riffs can be found here and there. The drumming is really stale, especially because (again, a mistake most BM bands find themselves falling into) the overuse of blast beats.
There are two tracks which kind of grabbed my interest, "Blame to Human Beings", and "Helvetestoner", one of which I could swear samples a classical piano piece that I've heard but don't know the name of, and the latter just has an intro that's uncommon in the context of the record (but only in that instance). So that's it, mostly. If you're into high-reverb atmospheric Black Metal, maybe give this a shot, because the repetitious style is possibly something you'd find enjoyment in, but I honestly didn't care for this LP at all. Forgettable and just overall generic. The only thing I genuinely liked was the piano sample (or maybe it's original, I don't know, but it's pretty good), and the vocals. Oh, and production is pretty solid too, which is a rare thing in Black Metal.
