The Mysterious Ways Of Repetitive Art
Chapel Of Disease

I have been sitting here for some time, trying to figure out within the black soaked shrouds of this band's music I am listening what did was their intention with the album's title? Probably due to my personal perspective, but I think that this German band, named CHAPEL OF DISEASE, meant to recreate the grandeurs of the past, scheming to head back to the occult of Death Metal music and its profound glory of the late 80's and early 90's. Back to the glorious tradition and the thick layers of brutality that started both in the US and the UK, only to lunge rapidly into Europe. It has been a wave no doubt, these band that have been trying to reinstate the old magic and the true signature and inspiration of Death Metal.
Presenting their second album, "The Mysterious Ways Of Repetitive Art", via the underground infestation of F.D.A. Rekotz, you may interpret as you will, already presented my intake, CHAPEL OF DISEASE surge with a level of filth in their sound along with a classy directive approach in their songs. Lurching with epic flavors of blackened shadows, the Germans, through seven tracks, devoured my attention, feed of it bit by bit. Involving the darker arts of old American Death Metal malignant giants MORBID ANGEL, following the corrosive meatiness of late 80's DEATH and with a closer eye of early 90's PARADISE LOST, these guys were able to shape an assorted essence without proving any technical genius arts.
This album presents a range of musical styles ruled mainly by the old guard, whether Death, Doom, Thrash and even classic Traditional Metal into a single mix. Across my chosen tunes, "Lord Of All Death" and "Symbolic Realms", I even more touched the band's musical sense of diversity. Both tracks, similar to the others, display more music rather than lyrics, as if those were just there as a mere scenery, or some kind of story that is the back of the music. Assembling varied arrangements, especially on "Lord Of All Death", which is a party of riffs, a company of tasty soloing and melodies and manic rhythm section attacks. On the other hand, "Symbolic Realms" is a slightly easier number to handle, if you can truly call it that. Crossing a chip of CELTIC FROST / BLACK SABBATH and mainly lingering on old PARADISE LOST, primarily strong influences from their first four albums if you would like to take a reference, CHAPEL OF DISEASE sounded even more melodic and classy. Their Death / Thrash speedy barge in makes it up for those that wished for a SLAYER / DEATH reservation, combating with smacking soloing and straightforward spews of the grinding vocals of Laurent Teubl.
Adventuring these fine duo tunes is not enough I take it to summarize this release. Therefore, I also the suggest to adhere the stunning instrumental intro of "The Mysterious Ways...". Without a shadow of a doubt, this has got to be one of the best intros for a Death Metal album. Starting like a sort of SLAYER intro with the sustained guitar only for seconds after to turn into a monster bursting out of its cage for thy flesh consumed. Slowly building up to become a bone mashing destroyer, I urge you to listen to this one closely. Don't expect any flamboyancy, yet these are five moments of utter sensation. "Masquerade in Red" is the heaviest number on the release, equally breaking as any old school tormentor, full throttle of brutal assault, classic kind of fast paced riffery agitated with slow paced blood ripping Doom chuggers and acoustic ornaments. I have to admit that even if several of those rhythm rifferies were already a common knowledge and use by many, those sounded just spot on.
Take a simple hint guys, this album is your old school answer, and this is only the beginning of 2015, so who knows what might come next. For now, take a bite off "The Mysterious Ways Of Repetitive Art" by the black priests of CHAPEL OF DISEASE.
