Caterina Nix's solo career kicked off in collaboration with Timo Tolkki with the band's self-titled release back in 2015, but that said record did not really earn her so much attention. After four years, CHAOS MAGIC returns - long after parting ways with Timo Tolkki with this album called "Furyborn".

The eleven-track album predominantly contains contemporary Symphonic Power Metal, with some touches of Gothic Metal and Electronic in it. Talking about being dynamic, the songs range from strong and powerful "You Will Breathe Again" to the heavy "FuryBorn" to the progressive "Like Never Before" down to the balladry "I'd Give it All". The songs have pretty obvious similarities with WITHIN TEMPTATION and some EVANESCENCE. Adding a thrill to the album are some high-quality guests in Tom Englund, Ailyn Gimenez and Ronnie Romero. The beauty of the album is heavily provided by Caterina's powerful melodic vocals - and all the rest are mid-tier. The energy does not fall short, but doesn't evolve either.

One thing that cannot be ignored about this album is how it sounds very much similar to any other female-fronted Symphonic Metal bands in YouTube. While it has a very enchanted vibe in it and even features some stellar vocalists, it doesn't sound new or fresh at all. But that doesn't affect the quality of the production, which in fact is excellent. Songwriting is also on the average, but memorability is a bit of a trouble. There were catchy choruses here and there (site "FuryBorn" and "Like Never Before") but the overall chance of getting hooked to the album is relatively low. Also, despite its dynamic sound, the excitement stops at the sixth song - and that is because the remaining half of the album is mere reflections of the first half. So, if you are looking for something new to your ears, this album might not please you. But on the other hand, if you want to hear new songs from an old formula created by WITHIN TEMPTATION and with some few twists, you might find this album interesting.
