Centinex - Subconscious Lobotomy (v.II.MCMXCIX) (Reissue) album cover

Ok, we're living on a time that some labels are digging up some reviews from the very past, to show the fans some bands forgotten into underground dust, and some works are really fine, but sorry to say that Swedish Death Metal band CENTINEX isn't one of them, for "Subconscious Lobotomy" really don't deserve this honor.

It's a CD from 1992, when Death Metal was in its peak, in an avalanche of perfect and classical albums, and besides the band comes from the Warehouse of Death Metal in Europe, they really weren't nothing more than another good band. Not original, just a Swedish Death Metal, and putting them in front of masters like ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER, UNLEASHED and AT THE GATES, they lack of that something special that makes the difference. It's not bad, but the sound they did, others done in a better way.

The production is not bad at all, the band music flows with energy and brutality, with that harsh sound from earlier Swedish Death Metal, but could be better to guitars (they are a little "hollow" and "thin" sometimes), but from 10th track to the 12th (the tracks from the "Apocalyptic Armageddon" EP, the bonus for this version), they really improved in recording quality. The new artwork is fine, better than the previous one (please, the first cover weren't good even when the CD was released), showing a darker and sinister painting.

Some good moments we can hear in the tracks "Blood on My Skin", the slower "Shadows Are Astray", "Orgy in Flesh" (good drums work here), "Apocalyptic Armageddon" (here the guitars show a better sound), "Seeds of Evil" and "Everlasting Bloodshed". And these last three ones are the ones from the EP, so we can see that they evolved with the passing of years, but nothing that could cause a miss to us all.

Besides this all, it's a good release, but why didn't they try to re-release some of the PUNGENT STENCH's albums instead?
