Death in Pieces

CENTINEX is a 4-Piece Death Metal band from Avesta, Sweden. They were formed way back in 1990 in Hedemora and they disbanded in 2006. They were reformed and reactivated in 2014 and this is their third album since they came back to the fold. This album does feature founding member Martin Schulman but all the other band members are new since 2019. I don't know what happened after the release of ''Doomsday Rituals'' back in 2016 but we pretty much have a whole new band.
Regular Death Metal gets me bored really fast. I prefer some nice melodic riffs, epic/catchy choruses and long shredding solos instead of 30-40 minutes of heavy riffing and guttural vocal, but this doesn't mean that I don't like this genre, and I can make exceptions, like I did for this album and I don't regret it. You have some tremolo picking-riffs and some relentlessly fast drums followed with more heavy riffing and the aforementioned guttural vocals. The album is very chaotic and stiff influenced by early Thrash Metal and early Swedish Death Metal. The songs are a bit disorganized and have irregular structures. Riffs appear out of nowhere and disappear never to be heard again in the rest of the disk. The guitar solos aren't overly technical or long but are quite enjoyable. The bass doesn't take any important role in the album apart from its obvious function.
The lyrical content isn't overly original and they are about Death and other bad stuff. Its like the old school Florida Death Metal bands back in the day. I am getting tired over these lyrics and it kinda feels dated honestly. They embody the lyrics from the forefathers of the genre especially CANNIBAL CORPSE but it kinda gets boring at the end. You have some many more intelligent Death Metal lyrics in bands like ABYSMAL DAWN, NILE or OBSCURA. I was disappointed honestly with the lyrics but the overall album is ravenous. It is aggressive and downright brutal. It's only 30 minutes and really in your face Death Metal. It won't reinvent the wheel but if you want to Mosh in your living room (please be responsible), this is the type album you can do that. It sounds like dated HATE ETERNAL, not overly original but enjoyable for the genre.
