CAUCHEMAR is a French Canadian Doom Metal headed by the amazing Annick "Morbid Chef" Giroux, she is an editor of Morbid Tales fanzine and co-editor of Les Templiers Doom Metal fanzine and she also wrote the awesome "Hellbent for Cooking: The Heavy Metal Cookbook" a cookbook featuring recipes from several Metal bands like ANTHRAX, ANVIL, DESTRUCTION, SAINT VITUS, SEPULTURA, among others. Another awesome thing worth mentioning is her blog Into the Void where she details her one year and a half journey around the world going to places like India, South Korea, Romania and Vietnam, it was during these travels that Tenebrario, the band's debut album, was written.
"Tenebrario" is being released three years after their EP "La Vierge Noire", and much like the EP, this record is a Doom masterpiece. The songs are of a haunting beauty that take you in a journey deep into the center of your being especially the title-track with its Asian influences that conjured up images of meditating beneath heavy raining nights while contemplating death and life.
What sets this band apart from others is that the lyrics are all in French, at first I wasn't very confident that this will be a good combination, but sung by the great voice of Giroux, they become a big part of creating the album's atmosphere and I can't imagine if it would work if it were in English.
What can be said about "Tenebrario" that hasn't already been said? This album is amazing, is a masterpiece and is by far the Doom Metal release of the year
