CAST THE STONE and their latest release "Empyrean Atrophy" has already left my jaw on the floor. Within a few seconds of the first track "As the Dead Lie" I remembered why I fell in love with metal to begin with. Andrew Husky's gutterals are on fucking point! As well as Jesse Shobel on drums and both bass and lead guitars played by Derek Engemann and Mark Kloeppel! I have already fallen for this record and I'm not even on the second song yet, so lets get to it!

The second song is "The Burning Horizon" which is definitely influenced by Melodic/Technical Death metal. Its beautiful as well as aggressive as hell. The vocals remind me of AMON AMARTH mixed with WOLFHEART which is an amazing mixture. I also love the fact it is almost eight minutes long, just long enough but not too long to where you get bored. At number three is "Standing in the Shadows" which is a wonderfully written acoustic piece and blends well with the Metal that surrounds it.

And out of fucking nowhere comes "A Plague of Light", which stomps your face into the dirt right after you had just calmed down. The vocals on this one are angry as hell and the short but unsuspecting solo placed in the middle, brought a smile to my face. This has to be My favorite song so far. So lets jump on into the self titled track "Empyrean Atrophy". And I just changed my mind. This song is hands down my favorite. It feels like a roller coaster, twists and turns everywhere. All I can really say is it is amazing. They took the old school Death Metal Guitar style and brought it new life.

And finally we have the "Infestdead" cover called "Jesusatan". I had never listened to the original which is odd because I love Dan Swano. So I went and listened to it and I have to say they did a perfect cover of it. I dare say they improved upon it. You all can kill me later for that one haha! I honestly wish the album had been longer but that is my only complaint. Great fucking job on a great album! And this one will be getting the rare 10/10 from me. So go pick this album up as soon as you can! It will be a great addition to your metal arsenal!
