Concept albums usually don't come out as initially expected, and CASABLANCA's third full-length effort, "Miskatonic Graffiti", proves no different. The Swedish hard rock quartet managed to pull some solid ideas into this piece, but if you are at least somewhat familiar with this genre, you will be disappointed to see how indifferent this album is.

"Miskatonic Graffiti" is yet another correctly-made, formula-based filler record. The production on this album is overall unremarkable, and the music doesn't roar the way hard rock should. That being said, it's not a bad record: it features songs like "Closer", "This Is Tomorrow" and "Sister", that adds the much needed drive in the album, in which CASABLANCA prove good value to the genre, unlike the rest of the album.

As for the lyrical concept, I wasn't entirely convinced. Some of the songwriting in "Miskatonic Graffiti" is overwhelmingly repetitive and uninspired. The repetition of words like "phantom" and "mountains" gives the simple listener no idea what this album is truly about, and I wouldn't have guessed this album was written about the Chuthulu mythology, unlike what CASABLANCA claim this album is about.

How mediocre the music is, you might ask? Well, there is an expected letdown for a person who looks for a good bargain for his playlist. "Miskatonic Graffiti" barely delivers any crucial rewarding moments, and makes the effort rather bland. But as you might've read previously, there are some gems that might come in handy for the average listener. Will they make you a CASABLANCA die-hard fan? I highly doubt it.

To conclude, I don't think you should avoid the chance to grab the opportunity of listening to "Miskatonic Graffiti", if you have no expectations above average for it. You might find it dear and enchanting, or you might discard it from your memory. Nonetheless, this record can be used without a fret to welcome new fans to the rock scene, and CASABLANCA have done good for that purpose.
