Evolution entered Metal as it does in every musical genre the reader can think of. One of the greatest driving forces of it is the need of the musicians and bands to make a different work from others, to express their inner ideas and please themselves. This is the reason for acts as BLACK SABBATH, JUDAS PRIEST, MOTÖRHEAD, METALLICA and others being great: it's not only the pioneering insight, but the personal form of making music. And doing so, the onslaught imposed by CARRION VAEL, of USA, sounds really different on "Abhorrent Obsessions", their latest release.

The quintet unleashes a violent and brutal form of Melodic Death Metal with clear elements of Groove Death Metal and others, but always working in a way that's different from the others. They use a pretty good technical insight along charming melodies (with many good keyboards interventions as well), but always with an expressive brutality, what enables they to release an amazing level of energy and aggressiveness. And it's really catchy in many moments, and what make this album hard to resist. The sonority "Abhorrent Obsessions" is in a trend that is usual for the genre: things are sounding dry and defined, but with brutal instrumental tunes, what make the understanding of what's being played easy, but can make the ears ache to those who aren't used to the genre. The work of Jack C. Daniels on the recordings and John Douglass on the mastering really boosted things a lot.

It's not hard to a fan of modern Metal genres or of Melodic/Technical Death Metal to fall in love with the album. And for a first time on it, "Wings of Deliverance" (excellent use of somber keyboards parts, along with brutal rhythmic changes guided by bass guitar and drums), "The Devil in Me" (what lovely guitars' parts and catchy riffs and solos, contrasting perfectly with the keyboards arrangements), "Kentucky Fried Strangulation" (where some Brutal Death Metal parts can be detected, and what good contrasts between grunts and screams), "Tithes of Forbearance" (the clear influences of Finnish and Swedish Melodic Death can be heard in many parts, but always with a personal lecture of the quintet), and "The Paint Shop" (once more influences of Finnish and Swedish Melodic Death can be heard, with a good set of melodies) are the right ones.

The butchers of CARRION VAEL really created a very good release with "Abhorrent Obsessions". Give a chance to yourself and listen to it!
