Visions of Infinihility
Carnosus
Thrash is like MSG. When added to different subgenres, it only enhances the enjoyment. In this case, CARNOSUS has added a thrash flair to their brand of death metal on their second full-length album, "Visions Of Infinihility." This album cements CARNOSUS as a band to watch in the future. The first track, "Ossein Larcenist," is played fast and dynamically. The biggest highlight of this track and the whole album is Jonatan Karasiak's vocal work. He uses several different vocal styles, all of which would not be out of place on a deathcore album. The last time I heard such impressive vocal acrobatics, I was listening to CATTLE DECAPITATION's seminal opus, "Monolith Of Inhumanity."
"Calamity Crawl" is where Karasiak's vocals shine. This track features low growls, gutturals, a fair amount of "breeeeeee," and even some pig squeals, all delivered with razor-sharp precision. Rikard Persson's lead guitar solo is equally as exceptional. In fact, every member's contributions are top-notch. "Fermenting Blastospheres Of Future Putridity" is another banger. The vocals on this track are reminiscent of Will Ramos' work on the newest LORNA SHORE album. The lead guitar solo is another hit. After hearing this fourth track on "Visions Of Infinihility," it became clear just how varied each track is. No two songs sound overly similar. "Devourer Of Light" is equal parts bombastic and technical. Persson's lead guitar work is indulgent, yet accessible. His technical prowess is never alienating and is as vital to the success of the album as Karasiak's vocals. That is not to diminish the roles of the other band members. All five members prove themselves to be an essential part of every track. Still, this is more of a guitar and vocals showcase.
In "Towards Infinihilistic Purity," Karasiak's long drawn-out screams become an instrument unto themselves. The sheer speed and brutality on display approach grindcore levels. Jacob Hedner's blast beats and Rikard Persson's technical wizardry are excellent choices and are exactly what this song needs. CARNOSUS have a hit on their hands with "Visions Of Infinihility." The album is mind-blowing and enjoyable from note one. The variety of techniques on display ensures that there is never a dull moment. This is a great album to show your friends exactly what feats death metal can achieve.
