Matter of a Darker Nature

This Turkish Technical Death Metal band is really very good. Taste it!
September 5, 2024

In the Middle Ages, the Ottoman Empire tried to conquer the known world with legions of soldiers and very good strategies on war. Today, the Turkish Metal scene is always revealing very good names that someday will take the world by assault (it’s a matter of time), bands that deserve to be heard with attention by the fans. One of them, still hidden in the underground, is the Death Metal quintet CARNOPHAGE, here back with its third full length, “Matter of a Dark Nature”, and it can rip ears to shreds easily. In the studio, they worked with Sasha Borovykh (mixing and mastering), Erhan Kabakçı (recordings and edition of drums and vocals), and Mert Kaya (the band’s guitarist who did the edition of bass guitar and guitars).

The result is something extremely brutal and aggressive, with very good instrumental tunes and everything sounding understandable. And the artwork of Mitchell Nolte is really excellent, translating into visual art what the band’s music is. The band drinks its musical influences from North American Death Metal School (especially from Florida), with names as MONSTROSITY, CANNIBAL CORPSE, SUFFOCATION and others, but always mixing with a fine technical approach (so one can finally state that they’re a Technical Death Metal act). But paying attention, their music shows very good arrangements and even some Progressive Metal parts (as shown on “Matter of a Dark Nature”), and it shows an amazing energy and many hooks. It’s very good, indeed.

“In My Bones” (fine technical parts on the guitar riffs and arrangements are heard on this one), “Until the Darkness Kills the Light” (this one shows some traditional Death Metal traces, with intense and technical work on bass guitar and drums), “Matter of a Darker Nature” (where some different ideas are depicted, and maybe are opening ways for the future), “Death Works Overtime” (a brutal crush is depicted on this one, with very good grunts filling all the spaces), and “The Day We Avenge On” (very good slow parts are heard here) will make the due presentations. But if only one word can say everything about the band’s music is ‘excellent’.

At least, embrace what is offered on “Matter of a Dark Nature”, and let CARNOPHAGE enters into your life. You won’t regret it!
