Carnifex - Die Without Hope album cover

In the oversaturated world full of half-talented bands demanding attention; some bands take the old school route and just work their asses off getting sharper, tighter, and more obliterating by the year. They tour constantly and earn everything that comes to them in fans, sales, and accolades. In the realm of Death Metal, it gets even harder to ply your trade and stamp your name into the conscious of the masses.

CARNIFEX has done it just like that and has just released their 5th studio album and 1st with new label Nuclear Blast titled "Die Without Hope", an intense 35 minutes of skull crushing riffs, rolls, and growls. Within it all you get snippets of just how far this band has come instrumentally as the melodic breaks, just enough to take a breath, sprinkled in here and there show that CARNIFEX is the definition of modern Death Metal.

A great example of those traits is the albums 2nd track "Dark Days" that features small sections of distant keys with some sweeping arpeggios only to ignite into the darkness of the shadows as they drag you in by your skulls. The albums title track "Die Without Hope" begins with an eerie atmospheric sounds one might hear in the depths of a haunted mansion overlooking a wild sea from a cliff. The demons soon rush forth, wrap their cold hands around your throat, and destroy you bone by bone.

The thing is, CARNIFEX doesn't just write lyrics about nothing, in this one has to know the words to know that the band has quite talented minds when it comes to the prose within the thunderous power they assault you with. Take the first paragraph of the opening track "Salvation Is Dead" as an example of this:

"This is what I see when I close my eyes.
This is what the end of the world feels like.
Slow motion murder killing everything inside.
This is what the end of the world feels like.
Am I the only one who wants to die young?
In my next life I'll be everything I never was.
I'll take pictures so you'll see me dying.
And say these are just words, you know I'm lying.
Maybe I'm sick or maybe I'm sad.
I promised not to do it, but the razor's in my hand.

Depression without control.
Pain, I can't feel it anymore.
If these words can't be read, know that this is the end."

These are very intense words that surely reverberate within an entire generation worldwide and touches perfectly on the angst and pain they all seem to suffer in. CARNIFEX may be the bearers of the torches for them as they navigate the earth and survive the best they can. With their latest album "Die Without Hope" they have declared themselves as perhaps the best on the genre.
