You Owe You Pay

Many years have passed since CARNAL DECAY's latest studio effort "On Top Of The Food Chain" - six years to be precise. One would think that the band had fallen into oblivion and that no one would remember them after so much time, but that's absolutely wrong. The band's inactivity was perhaps part of their road to success. Since their last album the band has toured all over Europe, visiting many countries and keeping their flame of gut-chewing, nasty, horrific, Hardcore-based Brutal Death Metal ablaze.
The Hütten, Switzerland based CARNAL DECAY have finally returned with their newest album, containing 10 crispy tracks a fan of this genre should absolutely not miss. "You Owe You Pay" was released on February 10'th 2017, and although the year is young, it's already promising to be one of the finest albums of this year!
The album starts off with "No Sequel", and finally, after so many years I get to hear new music by these guys; being a huge fan of them back in the day, the nostalgia is killing me. The first track starts off with extreme, skull-smashing blast beats, brutal vocals, slow paced riffs and a bit of a Hardcore-influenced overall atmosphere. Most of the times the vocals are classic US-based Brutal Death Metal growls; the screams are weird, but true to the genre - and let's not leave out the Hardcore "shouts". "Until You Die" starts off with a slower riff, but the atmosphere gets faster with every passing second whilst the vocals get nastier and nastier; it feel like this thing will never end. I must also mention how sick those breakdown-infused pauses are! The growls are scary and haunting, and this reminds me why I loved this band so much back in the day.
"Decimating The Living" is a slightly different track. It has a few Deathcore moments yet the structure of the song remains brutal and not too blended. The fourth track on this amazing record "Show Your Fucking Face" starts off exactly where the first two have ended. It is once again more Death Metal-oriented. Tasty bass lines, sharp riffs, murderous vocals await you on "Murder A La Carte", which is a perfect example of what the album has to offer (which is more than just the blast beats); it is indeed a brutal mix of so many genres, you can't even count them. What's original on this one is the fact that it takes away a small piece of every track we heard so far and blends them together. Perfect! Things SERIOUSLY get out of hand at the very end of the track where the Hardcore, Deathcore and general genres meet the brutal riffage and it all gets fused into a beautiful... I mean brutal ending.
"Not Worth A Bullet" is the perfect track for your enemies - well, the whole album is - but this one in particular is filled with so much musical and bombastic anger! I can clearly hear the name of the track amongst the lyrics, and I will definitely jam this for a long time after this listen. This is the type of album that really makes you crush and destroy things - whilst it's crushing your hearing; although, perhaps you could plant trees while listening to it; your choice.
"Your Guts My Glory" has a cool reference in its name, and I respect that, and not just respect it, I adore it, because, to be honest, the album is only going uphill with the overall atmosphere and musicianship. The vocals get nastier, the pig squeals are already making me type faster, I can clearly feel what the message of this album was when it was recorded...
I must say this directly to the band: congratulations, you've done it, perhaps better than ever! Now back to the public, if you are a fan of CARNAL DECAY and you still haven't decided if you want to jam this album or not, I'll make it easy for you: YES!!! DO IT. The last few tracks are also worth checking out, and that's why I'm leaving them for the end; because I didn't want to spoil literally everything for the fans - even if there are only 3 of them left to jam. Those tracks are: "Freed From The Leash", "I Crush Your Dreams" & "Trick Or Treat". I can guarantee you that you are yet to hear what this album actually has to show, and it's a brilliant and magnificent surprise of brutal, NYC Death Metal-influenced energy. If you like DESPISED ICON, DISGORGE or PATHOLOGY, give 'em a jam!
