Carnal Decay - When Push Comes to Shove album cover

"When Push Comes to Shove" is the 9th release (counting Demo's, E.P.'s, and Full Length) from Switzerland's CARNAL DECAY. A short and sweet three song E.P. via Rising Nemesis Records gets its official release on July 20th 2018. For fans of SKINLESS, CRYPTOPSY, and DYING FETUS, these guys may fit into a similar sound, but they definitely hold their own. Before you begin giving their latest a listen, do go back many years. Listen to a track called "Putrid Fucked Up Dip Potato." Now, that was 2006. But it gives you a good idea of the type of brutal these guys are.

The E.P. title track "When Push Comes to Shove" celebrates intense aggression. The kind that would see a man sentenced to a future that holds only death in the cruelest fashion. These guys are fckng angry. The lyrical content is perfect, and as always, CARNAL DECAY has a way of being able to slap someone stupid upside the head in the most effective way possible. The vocal solo at the intro is just very In your face and overall threatening. Very full, very deep, very solid. The music has a fast grinding death metal appeal but also does have a serious groove. It stomps, crushes, aims and fires a relentless "fck you" attitude.

"Food for Thought" offers dual vocal parts that are very complimentary. Adding to the testosterone-driven bash fest of flying punches and shattered fragments of teeth is Igor from KATALEPSY. This is one of those tracks that, even as I am typing, I feel my jaw clenched and my blood boiling and I just want to rip into a Solo cup with my teeth and possibly punch my oscillating fan. The double bass is rolling steady and fast, the grove is subliminal and just lines up perfect with a left hand smash right hand smash succession.

"We All Bleed Red" is seriously more of the same psychotic groove. It isn't the same as In monotonous, believe me, these guys have a way of delivering a very specific style. The playing is diverse throughout but the message stays very clear. Destroy. Overall, CARNAL DECAY is everything I had hoped CANNIBAL CORPSE would have evolved into after "The Bleeding." It's heavy, it's got a groove, it generates an actual feeling and motivates you to just brutally attack. CARNAL DECAY makes a tornado look like a light summer breeze. But like a tornado "When push comes to shove" was gone as quick as it came. And like a fat kid for a Twinkie or a junkie for a fix, This E.P. has definitely left me wanting more. Even down to the album artwork these guys just nailed it. Sound quality is top notch and enjoyable anywhere at any time.
