The masters of doom Metal, the pioneers of the epic doom Metal style, CANDLEMASS from Sweden are back, with "Ashes to Ashes", a live DVD, with two shows filmed in 2009, one in Athens Greece and one from their appearance in Sweden Rock Festival. But here we will deal with the CD which is in the limited digipack release. An even though I'm not a fan of live albums, just because is this coming form one of my beloved bands, I wanted to do this review.

The sound in the CD is very good. CANDLEMASS are in great shape and I really liked that some minor mistakes are not fixed in the studio. I would like the audience a bit louder, though. Robert Lowe shows us once more that he is a great singer, but nevertheless I miss the voice of Marcolin in songs like, for example, "Samarithan". In my humble opinion, there are some old songs that (fairly or unfairly it doesn't matter) have been combined with a specific voice. Like I can't imagine someone else singing "Hammer Of Doom" apart from Lowe. As you can see on your own, the choice of the songs covers most of the band's history, leaving once again out of it an album that is misjudged: "Chapter VI". Last but not least, CANDLEMASS plays a cover of "Kill the King" witch is unexpectedly very good.

CANDLEMASS new DVD is a release that probably all fans of the band will want it to be in their collection. Their Greek fans and the once being at 2009 Sweden Rock Festival have one more reason to buy it. As for me, I will wait for their new album that is going to be ready in 2011.
