The band CALLIGRAM is based in London, England where they met and formed in 2011. They released their introductory EP at the tail end of 2014. the EP is titled "Calligram", and contains 4 tracks released by the 5-piece act. This is CALLIGRAM'S first original material.
The first track titled "Murder Of a Stillhetto" begins with a relaxing background melody that gives way to a more driving, aggressive beat accompanied by guttural vocals after the opening beats. The song slows up a bit at a few points throughout but always comes thundering back strong.
The thunderous beat and driving pace set the tone for the rest of the EP. The entire EP contains guttural vocals by Rizzardo who brings something unique to the album with his deep voice, yet its not so low that he is not able to be understood. Understanding more guttural lyrics makes the EP far more enjoyable than many where the vocals are practically inaudible. That adds another element to the EP that is missing on many dark, heavy releases we hear these days.
On their introductory EP combining Rizzardo's vocals with the driving guitar riffs and the pounding drumbeats CALLIGRAM have solidified quiet a unique signature sound. This second EP confirms that CALLIGRAM brings something musical, yet heavy to the table for metal fans. The only criticism is that it at times sounds quiet similar across all four songs, which may bore some fans who enjoy a wide variety of sounds within a CD. More sound variations would add even more pizazz to an already awesome second EP.
