Cage9 - Illuminator album cover

CAGE9 is now stationed in Los Angeles, but began in Panama City, without being able to experience live shows from influential bands. Now in America and after releasing over 100 tracks, touring America and on the international level opening for some very popular bands, CAGE9 are back with "Illuminator". This album release comes in at thirteen tracks and just under an hour of listening time.

The open track "Open the Sky" starts the album off on a low-key, cosmos way. It transfers rather quickly into a more Alternative Rock track that keeps otherworldly elements. The vocals range deeply in this track. He can get higher in the course, but he keeps a lower tone throughout the rest of the track. The guitars and drums keep this track in the solar system. The bass though, is the star in keeping the music grounded. The uniqueness presented here keeps the listener engaged with the music.

"Gallows", track two, is my favorite track. It is almost on the poppy side, but the meaning behind it gives it the perseverance it needs to be more than the "wahooohooo". "You reach for the sun, but run from the shadows", this one line, could mean so much to someone. The vocals are on point and music is the perfect intertwined greatness of a little Progressive, a little Alternative, and a little Rock. An, over all, fantastic track, if you can see past the almost Pop Rock course vocals.

Track four "Everything You Love will Someday Die", starts off with a little Spanish flare, digging deeper into the musicianship CAGE9 has in store. The track then turns to its hardest track so far of the album. It has some of those Classic Rock guitar riff elements flowing throughout this track. The vocals are a little lower and subdued in here, but match the feel perfectly.

"Black Horse", track six, slows things down a little. The music is softer, but is spilling with emotion. The musicianship in this track is phenomenal. There are so many elements and so many ebbs and flows, that you aren't really sure what you're listening to, except that you like it and you like it a lot. Track seven. "Death of a Dragon" is similar in its impact. It's a much slower track that allows a different but effective emotion drip into their music. It is another masterpiece in an album that has so much to offer its listeners.

Another exceptional track on this album is "Martyr". It's a darker track that has so much punch in it. It's a "Fuck You" to those who refuse to change; those that know their own actions are a problem, but still don't change. This track is pure emotion.
The final track, "Take Back Tomorrow" is high energy musically and vocally. It gets you ready to take on the world. This track is an ode to "do what you need to do to make it". Take what is rightfully yours.

"Illuminator" has a post-punk INCUBUS feel. I always had a soft spot for INCUBUS because of the continuous and inconceivable emotion in their music. These guys have that same style, without being the same. Concepts of far out atmospheres and some of right here on Earth. Some that most have connections to, and others that only a few will understand what is being presented. This Alternative Rock album is fantastic and will not disappoint. Why isn't CAGE9 on the radio?
