Caecus - Affliction album cover

I get what they're trying to do; the un-intelligible vocals, the mystique of not assigning who plays what to your names (initials in this case) and the lack of any production. It sounds like they set up a laptop microphone in the middle of a room while they played. Now, I might be missing the point, and that these songs are meant to be inaccessible, but really? Why? I even turned up the speakers to the point the neighbor likely thought I was sacrificing their cat to Satan to see if I was missing something; I wasn't. Track "I" was generic tremolo picked riffs and growled vocals. "II" was grinding to listen to, as much as the drummer seemed very talented the production made it sound like tin cans being wacked. The last track, "III", was the longest track on the album with a few more clichés, with a fade out that lasted too long to add anything of value to the track. The best part of the song was the eerie soundscape formed at the end of the EP, something to explore in future to add a bit of originality.

I hope CAECUS read this, and providing it was the sound they were going for, fantastic and all the best. However, hopefully the passion on display matches the music further down the line, as musically, it was very energetic and to the point. Still.<
