Cadaverous Condition - Burn Brightly Alone album cover

For a band that once delivered harsher material of grinding Death Metal, I believe that what I listened to here can be counted as a mature direction. Well that is just a guess. However, a guess or not, it was quite soothing. From grinding Death Metal to modern Folk added by a simple course of Death / Doom Metal. This is the new version that has been running for some time now of CADAVEROUS CONDITION formed in Austria.

Unlike what I expected, I wasn't facing a newcomer band but a veteran group of the older guard of the early 90s. CADAVEROUS CONDITION began their long road with the rise of extreme Metal. They haven't reached the level of recognition and fame as others but it didn't stop them from going forward. Their new album, via an independent label of Starry, "Burn Brightly Alone", is a partial note of how a simple Folk educed with Death Metal sounds. It sounded to me like an awkward mix between early CELTIC FROST, MY DYING BRIDE and PARADISE LOST with the grooves of TYPE O NEGATIVE. In overall, this album was straight to the point with a few atmospheric minutes that refreshed the gleam reality that this album holds.

Although pretty basic in their Death Metal, it was something that started well but sometimes sounded empty and superficial. The music lacked that so important dosages of melodies that were absent in the electrical verses. However, CADAVEROUS CONDITION bought my admiration with their acoustic guitar sections. "We Both Go Down Together", a nice forbidden love story that ended up in suicide, is an excellent piece of acoustic music that even without heaviness and with a joint clean and harsh vocals was one of this band's key moments.

"Order Of The Forlorn" took a darker turn and was able to impress with its clear-cut approach. The band kept some of their roots and that is good. "Wicklow Nightfall" is another great run into the acoustic, storytelling kind of Folk music. It is not that the band used other known Folk instruments but nothing seemed to suit what they played here on the album. "Shine Unseen, Then Disappear" sounded to me like a Doom Metal hymn with a strong chorus as its top notch moment. It reminded me of "Gothic" meets "Lost Paradise" in many ways but without the melodies.

CADAVEROUS CONDITION made a solid release that presented an opportunity for the creation of an inspiring musical process. However, the release sounded too basic even with the addition of the nice acoustic guitar verses. Furthermore, the songs have that capability to replicate themselves over and over. On the other hand, this album may not be an impact but it is only a brick in a stone wall that hasn't reached completion.
