Cadaveric Crematorium - One Of Them album cover

I don't know but I think that it's insane to think about one's horrible death, meaning to the gory end of it all. Maybe all these years I have been missing the whole idea behind countless Brutal Death Metal and Grindcore acts when it comes to ways to end up dead. The feeling of being eaten alive, as pieces of flesh leave your body right into the misshaped mouth of a dejected, grotesque or deformed individual that seems to like the taste. Man that is utterly gross and vulgar. And I am saying that no matter what type of music is playing though it certainly won't be another form of AOR. Coming over to take me for another science fair experimental mistake, the Italian Zombie feeders of CADAVERIC CREMATORIUM with their new album, "One Of Them", via The Spew Records (A branch of Punishment 18 Records), resent me back to blood red streets filled with rotten leftover bodies of innocent humans after being ripped to shreds by a pack of infected parasites that once were like you and me. It wasn't an easy ride but it did left some impression, but not overly great so to speak.

On a personal note I must state that the main thing that has been keeping me out of the loop of the entire Brutal Death Metal and Grindcore hasn't been the music at all but rather vocal line. Even before I became a vocalist myself, it was hard to literally digest the spews of pig squeals and heavily low grunting from the guys at the front of the mic. Sometimes I even asked myself why the hell they bothered writing lyrics for only to get wasted by a guy wishing to sound monstrous. Even if there is a vocal orientation towards the bloodthirsty and horrific imageries these bands are trying to describe, why not letting it out in a different way? I assume maybe it is better that no one would actually understand what is happening within these songs as it would have been too atrocious to comprehend anyway. Due to the reason that I just couldn't stand the vocals of the cookie monster smudges, my review more or less took a different turn towards the music and a little of its integration with the vocals. As a whole, to me it seemed like two different settings, meaning the music and vocals.

Principally, CADAVERIC CREMATORIUM stretched their musical shifts between the hard knocking beats and rhythms of Punk and Hardcore in addition to drowning into the extreme areas of both Death and Thrash Metal. In point of fact, the larger part of "One Of Them" took a more of an old school Thrash turn in the vein of early KREATOR chops and SLAYER's disparaging sound. Let's just say that with the band's music, the moshpit ring will be dripping with blood but certainly not the blood of the eaten. On the other hand, even with the resemblance of the riffages to the creations of the two mentioned Thrash icons, the guitar work on this release is even more exceptional and diverse. Guitarist, Willi, presented himself as a gem within this crew. Moreover, the entire rhythm section mustered pretty tight rhythms and creative chops as it cruised through the simplicity of Punk on the road to the complex features of Death / Thrash Metal. Sometime I had these thoughts about these energetic odd rhythms as a resemblance of a survivor running away from a whole army of Zombies searching for him, while using his terrified mind to physically find a solution for this mess. However, his journey wouldn't probably last too long just as my feeling towards this release.

For a while the material felt as if it misplaced its way with the attempts to sound creative. Actually that search made it sound more even more lost than to begin with. I was really hard to connect the dots of some of the songs. "Infected Scientist", "Zombies Will Dominate", "Genetic Corruption" showcased a masterful work of energetic and highly articulated moments of good music. As for the vocals, I think that you already know my opinion about that. But believe me when I say that I tried to be as objective as I could. For all you grinders out there "One Of Them"will serve its purpose, as for non-grinders, I really suggest on enjoying the music. Beware of the fouled intros.
