Danish deathcore band CABAL was formed in 2014 and released two singles shortly after before putting out their first EP in 2016 titled Purge along with an instrumental version. In 2018 they signed on to Long Branch Records and released a full length album called Mark of Rot. 2020 came with a slew of singles, one in which features MATT HEAFY of trivium called Bitter Friend. That year also saw the band release a live album on Audiotree before the arrival of their second album called Drag Me Down. Now in 2022, the band has teamed up with Nuclear Blast for their third album Magno Interitus.

The album opens up with the overproduced track "If I Hang, Let Me Swing. The track has a cool name and though I feel it has a lot of pampering put into it, sounds pretty good and is heavy as shit. The drums come across as sounding like a drum machine but would demolish you live. The next track whips you into a frenzy with relentless drumming from Nikolaj that sounds unhuman. "Insidious" is a two minute walk into a storm of pure chaos that leaves you with the feeling of not knowing what just happened to you, but knowing you liked it. The vocals are harsh and pack a vicious punch with the duo of Andreas and Simon. Man the vocals on these tracks are powerful as fuck and could topple buildings and open portals for the evil to rise. With "Magno Interitus", Joe Bad and Andreas bring this energy along with some great guitar work that combines for a well layered display of brutal metal with an orchestral like backing.

The album comes at you non-stop and with tracks like "Insatiable" and "Exit Wounds" as the songs carry the ability to immediately get your heart rate up and sense of empowerment. As I am not really a huge fan of deathcore, you get the feeling that this album is going to hit the spot with anyone who is a fan of the genre and probably many that aren't. "Exsanguination" is dominated by the guitar duo of Chris's, a galloping crunchy and dirty riff that leaves the ground shaking beneath it. The riffs on the album have similar effects in terms of intensity to the individual tracks but are each distinguishable without feeling like they are replayed throughout the release. Which with some of the deathcore I've come across, seems to be the lackluster element they hold.

There is a lot to like from what the band does on this album whether or not you are fan of the genre or not. The vocals are very well done as it seems that there is little time to even take a breath before more deep toned screaming comes to eat your soul. The music from the beginning of the first track to the end is a complete assault to your senses. Most songs start up with a growing anticipation of what is about to come, but it still has the "Holy Shit" affect each time it kicks in. This one is gonna be a crowd pleaser for the true metalcore crowd out there.
