From Lansing, Michigan, comes Progressive Instrumental band BUILDING UPON THE REVELATION. With an EPK that contained only the songs, and no entry on The Metal Archives, and without a record label, I was not able to gather any bio information on the band. "The Pathways to Discipline" contains six tracks. "Patterns and Pathways" is the first cut. Heavy, Djenty, and Progressive elements are noticeable out of the gate, with a steady, staccato drum beat and some legato leads. The production is just a bit muddy, especially in the guitars. "ANECHOIC" has a similar sound, with a mid-tempo riff, psychedelic leads, and a heavy backdrop. The Progressive elements here aren't as discernable, and the drums are just too heavy in the mix.

"Engineering a Better Future" has a slower and more emotional start, but once the leads come in, it has a similar scope to the previous two songs. They really need to highlight the lead guitar parts, and bring them out of the darkness, and dial back the drums. "The Discipline" is another mediocre song that features some dual guitar harmonies. At times, they sound a little too much like KARMA TO BURN than the next strong Instrumental Progressive band. If they want those accolades, they are going to have to push themselves much further than this. Through four songs now, the album is already beginning to become monotonous.

"Dark Current" features a slightly more energized sound, but with these mid-tempo numbers, they really need to kick it up a few notches. The bass work is at least a little more inventive. "Fallen Architects" is a little faster and a with a little more melody, and I think I finally figured out one of the production problems...take the Stratocasters off the neck pick-ups and pump some more treble into the mix and they would be clearer. Sadly, this instrumental album was poised for take-off but the engines never kicked up and it flopped. As this is most likely a fledgling band, they really failed to even build any promising moments.
