Think of bands from the Tampa Florida death metal scene, and who do you think of? In my case, DEATH, MORBID ANGEL, and CANNIBAL CORPSE. I was amazed that I had never heard of BRUTALITY until just now. I grew up on the original death metal bands, so it's exciting for me to go down memory lane once again, and rediscover this genre. A rather interesting story, as today's album  "Sempiternity" was reportedly written as a swansong as sorts. However, after listening to this album, I'd be glad if there was more albums, and hope there is.

Right from the start, I can appreciate those extremely high modern production values. Everything is crisp, sharp, yet still retaining that raw death metal brutality. "Orchestrated Devastation" is a superb start to the album. They definitely have the progressive technical death metal element down to a tee. There's some mind-blowing dual guitar work, an absence of conventional song structures, and an all out groove infested assault hitting you from all angles. Scott's vocals are fierce as well, that mid range growl is a thing of terror and beauty. I was waiting for a solo, but I simply was not ready for that blistering effort at the mid point of this song. Honestly, just check it out. You won't regret it.

"Fluent In Silence" has that MORBID ANGEL style groove and rhythm down, but with much higher quality production and with vocals that are 666% more demonic. "Artistic Butchery" seems like a very fitting title for the third song. They have that solid death metal groove and undertone, yet with some exceptional melodic guitar riffs. I sensed a hypnotic almost soothing vibe to the riffs in parts, very similar to a black metal artist like DISSECTION. Just another reason to admire BRUTALITY. The final recorded song of the album, "Crushed" is a progressive journey, shifting effortless between aesthetic to straight up brutal. There are some live tracks to this album too. I did wonder if this felt like filler and perhaps out of place on this album. However, this proves that the band are more than capable live performers and can do it both in the studio and on the stage.
