During the 90's, all attention in the Metal scene turned to Norway due the churches being burned and for the assassination of Øystein Aarseth (AKA Euronimous, guitarist and leader of MAYHEM). But the value of the bands that were risen from the ashes of these acts is unquestionable, because they not only brought Black Metal back from the depths of underground, but created a new musical model that was expanded to limits that are still unknown. But there was some polarization in the scenes of Oslo and Bergen, because the known names were from these cities. But Trondheim, the city from where TNT rose on the 80's, became a warehouse for many relevant names from Metal scene as well, as KEEP OF KALESSIN KARI RUESLÅTTEN, THE 3RD AND THE MORTAL, and many more. And it's the city from BROTTHOGG, an insane quartet that comes storming with their second full length, "The Die is Cast".

Their musical work can be faced as a mix between Black Metal and Death Metal with a Progressive/Melodic Metal insight, creating a strong and aggressive music that is adorned with charming dark melodies, but using some instrumental technique that is truly amazing. The energy and personal approach of the band is really something that isn't usual, so take a listening and let yourself be seduced! The sound quality of "The Die is Cast" is really very good, allowing the band to express their musical ideas without demanding efforts from the listeners. The instrumental tunes were chosen wisely, in a way that they are sounding great, defined, but sharp and aggressive, and the whole sonority is excellent.

There are seven precious gems shining on this album, so be prepared for a great experience. But for a first time, the fine mix between brutality, technique and melodies imposed by "Nokturne" (excellent guitar riffs and great tempo changes), the grasping melodic ambience of "Behind the Gateways" and of "Liberation" (very good vocals, indeed), the Progressive elements heard on "Draugen" (especially from bass guitar and drums, along with amazing guitar solos), the abrasive tempos and energy that flows from "Forlis" (this one with classic Black Metal rhythmic elements) and "Resurrection" (on this one, they're clearly on the guitars, but what catchy tempos), and the brutal and bones crusher "Iacta Alea Est" are their best. Yes, no song can be left out!

BROTTHOGG is really a great band, and to be described as a mix between EMPEROR, SYMPHONY X and DISSECTION. And "The Die is Cast" is really a great surprise.
