Well, have I ever? What kind of racket is this? The name BONGZILLA filled me with dread before I even started listening, because I was expecting very much marihuana induced stoner rock to come out of the speakers. At least I wasn't disappointed in that respect, as it is just that. But before I go further, let's get some background on the band BONGZILLA themselves.

BONGZILLA was formed in 1995 in Madison, Wisconsin, USA and have had almost the same line-up all through those years. Somehow, they have never been able to hold on to their bass players. They have exhausted four of them over the years. Or have they smoked them out? So, to counteract this, singer Mike "Muleboy" Makela decided that he would at least record the bass himself for "Dab City". Which actually is their sixth album to date. That is without mentioning all the EP's, splits and compilation, and even a live album they have released so far. The band was inactive from 2009 until 2015. Before the split, they were signed to RELAPSE RECORDS, and after by HEAVY PSYCH RECORDS. Which is about right, because this is as stoner as one can get.

The music does start promising. It is very repetitive on "Dab City", but also very loose, extremely relaxed and sometimes even hypnotising. So far, so good, one would say. But when it comes to the songs themselves, they lack any quality to make them stand up. Don't even start about them standing out, as they are as shallow as an empty ashtray, or should I say, a broken bong. They all lack substance, direction and purpose, making them sound just about obsolete, I cab live with that, if the band's efforts are making me feel like they are trying to win me over and get me to immerse myself into their world. But I only get those feelings when they are blatantly copying BLACK SABBATH or TROUBLE riffs.

On top of that; who in their right mind has allowed the so-called singer of BONGZILLA, Mike "Muleboy" Makela, to open his bloody gob. What a load of shite sounds he is spitting out make any positivity I have about the experience of the music disappear in an instant. Can't they just cut out his tongue? Can't BONGZILLA find anyone that is able to produce sounds from their throat that have any credibility in comparison to the Stoner Rock that these guys play? I know, they have used movie soundscapes on "Cannonbong". Why not always do that.? Makes a lot more sense. This was a waste of space and time as far as I'm concerned.
