Superman Tonight: Live In London

Be pretty sure this is another of those DVDs that pop out of nowhere and are not referred at the band's official site or something like that. Thankfully this disc is more than decent in its audio/video aspect at least so it's up to you if you'll consider buying a(nother) BON JOVI show to enjoy on your screen. "Superman Tonight - Live In London" captures the band live in the UK capital at Radio Theater; it was November 3, 2009.
What should be said in advance is that the venue is too small for the band's dynamics and reputation, so let's guess this was some kind of secret or promo or 'guestlist' gig or something relevant. There are not more than a 3-digit number or fans in there, plus the setlist is too shortened for the band's likes (usually a 120+ min. set should someone expect by Jon and Co.). This alone makes this DVD memorable for a grand number of BON JOVI connoisseurs but leaves less chance for the average fan to give in.
Anyway, the - as pre-said - audio and video part is excellent, even if there are no options in the menu...and no menu, either. You insert the disc and here you go! The band plays, the fans are cheerful and the evening seems warm and family-like. The setlist consists of ten songs, half of which are from the American band's latest CD called "The Circle". Oldies pop up only from the multi-platinum "Slippery When Wet" album (1986) while sing-along hits like "It's My Life" have their share here. Jon's voice is in a pretty good shape, Richie Sambora remains the silent force behind the band and the musicianship is in high level as assumed. I didn't like seeing Hugh McDonald's face omitted from the camera shots most of the time though; OK, we know he's a session member...for 16 years now...
The "Superman Tonight - Live In London" DVD has its target group divided: there are BON JOVI fans willing to have everything in their collection and there are Rock fans willing to buy a DVD in a 'smile' price (which I assume this product will have). Either way, no one will be disappointed.
P.S.: McDonald was in the lineup assembled by 'John Bongiovi' that recorded the demo version for the hit-to-be called "Runaway" back in the early 80s.
