It has been six years since Swedish Death Metal legends Bloodbath recorded the "Fathomless Mastery." Six years and the band has returned with not only a new album but a new frontman. Many doubts have been cast on whether the band would remain strong or fall before the public, allow me to prove those who doubt, wrong in this review ladies and gentlemen.

This is Grand Morbid Funeral!

We start with one of my favorites off of this record, "Famine of God's Word". As the track begins we find ourselves in familiar hostile territory, the speed and the agression are just delicious and for me this brings me back to some incredible memories of college. With this track there seems to be aggression that we have all come to recognize when it comes to Bloodbath's work, though there is a change if I may be honest. The change itself isn't anything bad, you could say it is almost like an adaptation to what the band has become over the years. By bringing in a new singer, naturally there will always be some change when it comes to the formula of a bands chemistry and ideas. However, there isn't much of a change within this, just a powerful and destructive volume of blood and bone being chucked about by a band that is still hungry and wanting more. This track shows that the band has retained a lot of what they have become by constructing a new creation from many of their former cadavers and stitching them together to become something terrifying and vicious.

From listening to this track we see that yes there is something different, but it is not a bad change at all, it shows that Nick has brought his own unique element into Bloodbath which if you ask me is a fantastic thing to have. With every vocalist that the band has had, they have all brought their own style and form, and each and every time it has been incredible to hear. Nick shows his power, aggression and bloodlust through this track and I can honestly say that I have been able to hear every word.

The next song I have chosen to review on this album is "Unite In Pain." This is a song that starts off incredibly powerful with a fast, brutal roar and a guitar solo combination. This gives a healthy start to the song indicating that we as listeners are in for a treat. The song then proceeds to a dark and somewhat catchy melody which is heavy and smooth. The pace of the song tends to change but being able to keep the energy going and from fast and slow is candy for the ears and for me. It just makes me want to bang my head. My favorite part of the song is the combination of Nick and Anders vocals to create a powerful roar to which then proceeds to Nick's grouchy and raw sounding voice. For the sound this track has, Nick's vocals go well with it and make it both the best and the catchiest song on the album, and somehow makes me want to come back for more.

This song was the first off of the new album that was premiered and it was met with mixed reactions, mainly due to Nick's vocals. I personally was not fond of the song during the beginning, but after a few listens, it's now something I can't get enough of. We may be expecting the heaviest and darkest album from Bloodbath yet and I really look forward to seeing what the rest of "Grand Morbid Funeral" has to offer.

To conclude, in my opinion, this is truly the album we have been waiting to hear and this will be one of the most exciting releases this year. Let it be said that "Grand Morbid Funeral" will truly be a feat of power and aggression to which will grace the Bloodbath lineage.
