Hot Blood And Cold Steel

BLOOD SPORT are a speed metal band from Finland. They are a relatively new band forming in 2020 as they felt there wasn't enough speed metal in the scene and they wanted to do something about it. Since their formation they have released two demo duology's "Niterider/Blood Sports" being the first and followed shortly by "Steel System / Agitator" less then a month later. The two duology demo tapes were then combined into a limited edition cassette tape run almost two months later to end off 2020. In 2021 the band returned with their new EP "Hot Blood And Cold Steel" via Gates Of Hell Records.
This EP is packed with six unrelenting, brash speed metal tracks for fans to enjoy. With the powerful vocals of V and the shredding guitar skills of Burst who also holds down bass duties too for the band, being backed up by hard hitting session drummer G.U.N. The band are here to make their mark on the speed metal scene. Prior to the release of this EP, four of the six tracks on it had been released leaving the only two previously unheard tracks on this EP for fans to hear for the first time. Those tracks are "Machine Gun" and "Sin Unto Death" which are the first two tracks on the EP which I thought was an interesting choice to make to start the EP off with new material rather then something they were already familiar with.
With this EP the band definitely did start as they meant to go on as it opens with the track "Machine Gun" which is an intense track to get fans hooked from the start. The track starts with a guitar riff before the introduction of the chaotic, hard hitting drums for an instrumental intro lasting the first half a minute of this track before listeners get to hear any vocals, and from then on the intensity never drops and the addition of a well placed guitar solo definitely added to this track for sure. That track was then followed by the second of two previously unheard tracks titled "Sin Unto Death" which had a slightly slower intro but once the drums kicked into gear the intensity was brought right back for yet another half a minute long instrumental before the vocals are introduced. The energy never depleted from the time it phased in at the start till the phase out that the track ended on.
The EP ended with a track that almost shares the same name as the band itself as it is titled "Blood Sports" the band released this track as a demo over a year prior to the release of this EP. Fans of the band from it's inception in 2020 would've already heard this track, along with others on the EP which makes sense to close out the EP with a track fans already know and leave them wanting more. This track, like those that came before it, has very hard hitting drums, it has a fast, shredding guitar and powerful vocals.
Having listened to this EP in it's entirety I can say that if you're a fan of bands like JUDAS PRIEST, VENOM, even the "Show No Mercy" era of SLAYER or just speed metal in general, you'll enjoy this EP and as the band seem to be making waves in the metal underground, they're definitely a name to look out for going forward.
