British band BLOOD RED SAINTS were formed in the year 2014 by Pete Godfrey and bassist Rob Naylor. Pete Godfrey and drummer Pete Newdeck were both part of the band IN FAITH and they both quit the band to form a new entity with Lee Revill on guitars. The band credits Rock acts like BON JOVI, NICKLEBACK, DEF LEPPARD and WINGER as the inspiration for their brand of Hard Rock music. Bassist Rob Naylor was one of the founding members of ANGELS OR KINGS while Lee Revill is a seasoned campaigner with stints in the GARY HUGHES BAND. This album is the band's second outing after their 2015 effort "Speedway". Since then the band has added guitarist Neil Hibbs and Andy Chemney from ANGELS OR KINGS to give the band a tighter sound. The band has played in the Rockingham Frontiers Festival and HRH AOR and has since said, "We are not a 'project'. We are a real band and we fully intend on bringing it out there live."

The album has a runtime of over 48 minutes of Hard Rock music what is best described as 'Adult Oriented Rock'. The opener, "Another Freak" sets the tone for the rest of the tracks to live up to. The song has crunchy guitar sound and a catchy chorus. "Live and Die" quickly follows which starts off with a hard riff and has an incredible solo to its credit. "Arms Wide Open" is the obligatory ballad that has been the staple of so many Rock acts in the 80's and the 90's. This strategy is such a cliché and has been done to death by Rock bands in the 80's. It is, quite frankly, baffling why the band would want to go the same route. "Sometimes" has a straightforward Rock melody and is quite catchy while "Rise Again" is a slower song with modern sensibilities. The last song, "Turn on the Night", has a more commercial appeal with huge riffs and a huger chorus.

So would I recommend this album? Probably. To guys who were fans of the 80's and the early 90's sound. The songs have a heavy BON JOVI influence on them and sound like leftover tracks from a DEF LEPPARD album. Don't get me wrong, this album is recorded by a bunch of really talented musicians, but I wonder if there is a market for such Rock acts. At best, they would rightly find their place, and quite rightly, among nostalgia acts of the 80's and the many tours that recently reunited 80's bands perform on. Great singing, catchy choruses, superb lead solos and clever riffs are all part of this amazing album. Unfortunately, it's strictly for fans of the 80's Hard Rock scene and for everybody else, static in the background at a noisy pub.
